Amish Friendship Bread
This is a recipe that a sister of one of my friend passed on to me. Once baked this bread is fantastic and shareable with all of your friends.
Amish Friendship Bread Starter:
1pkg dry yeast
1/4c. warm water
1c. all purpose flour (sifted)
1c. warm milk
1c. sugar
Directions:
You must use a glass or plastic container. You also must use plastic or wooden spoons.
Do Not Refrigerate Starter.
1. In a bowl dissolve the the yeast and warm water for about ten minutes.
2. In a 2 quart glass or plastic container combine flour and sugar. Mix thoroughly or the flour will be lumpy when you add the milk.
3. Slowly stir in warm milk and dissolved yeast mixture. Let sit until bubbly and then place in a ziploc freezer bag. This is considered Day 1.
* Throughout this process when air form in bag and it's puffy let it out and reseal. It i normal for the batter to rise, bubble, and ferment.
Day 2 Mush the bag
Day 3 Mush the bag
Day 4 Mush the bag
Day 5 Mush the bag
Day 6 Add 1c. flour, sugar, and milk
Day 7 Mush the bag
Day 8 Mush the bag
Day 9 Mush the bag
Day 10 Follow instructions below:
1. Pour the entire contents of the bag into a nonmetal bowl
2. Add 1c. sugar, flour, and milk
3. Measure out 4 separate batters of 1c. each into 4 Ziploc Freezer Bags

Let them know they will do nothing the first day because that is the day they receive their starter.
They need to follow Days 2-10.

REMEMBER: If you keep a starter for yourself, you will be baking in 10 days. The bread is very good and makes a great gift. Only the Amish know how to make a starter, so if you give all the bags away, you will have to wait for someone to give you a starter back.
Should this recipe not be passed onto a friend on the first day, make sure to tell them which day it is when you present it to them.
